The Educated Angels organization is a social pillar of the Central Texas community and provides support to the Killeen Independent School District and its students alike. Through consistent fundraising and event organizing, Educated Angels is directly responsible for the highly successful Back 2 School Bash each fall. The founders, Mark & Sibyl Sheppard and Tina Capito are always expanding their reach in impacting the youth of the Killeen community. The 1st Annual Step Into Summer Youth Step-Show is their latest event with a focus on highlighting the talent of the local youth.
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, local elementary and middle school step teams gathered at the Killeen Civic & Conference Center to do battle for prizes. UITA’s very own Comedian Tee Sanders was the host and started the show with her lighthearted brand of comedy and gave the show a great family feel throughout.
Each team took the stage to perform their well-prepared routines and did not disappoint. A break from the normal step show format, this contest blended strict step routines with hip-hop inspired dance moves to WOW the crowd. Teams were comprised of young students with ages ranging from 5 to 11 and 12 to 14. The elementary competition was fierce but Meadows Elementary emerged victorious after executing thunderous steps and the latest dance moves. The contest then shifted focus to the middle school bracket and Audie Murphy Middle School took center stage with precise moves and a unique baseball inspired style, winning their bracket with ease.
The judges on hand were treated to a great competition and would later be brought on stage for a performance of their own. Tee cued DJ and the dance party was underway. Not to be outdone by their teams, the coaches were brought on stage to strut their stuff as well.
In the end, both winning teams received their cash prizes and were recognized by the crowd as some of the best youth performers in the area. Next year’s event promises to be even bigger and better and you can count on Educated Angels to highlight the exceptional youngsters of Killeen, Texas.
